DISCIPLESHIP
Too often we’re told what we’re saved from but not told what we’re saved for. If we had no purpose beyond salvation in Christ, then God would take us home to Heaven the moment we are saved.

But that is not what God does. God saves us and then we remain here for a specific purpose. The purpose is to be a disciple (a follower) of Christ who is mentored in how to be a Christian (a disciple of Jesus who lives like Jesus) and invests himself/herself into mentoring others on how to be a Christian (a disciple of Jesus). This leads to life change and to lives being changed, thus changing the world for the glory of God.
As a Christian, the goal is simple: to grow in our faith relationship with Christ, to grow in Christlikeness, and then to lead others to do the same. This is God’s mission for the church. Since believers in Christ are part of the church, it’s God’s mission for them.

Living things grow. Living things reproduce. Living things that are healthy will always grow and reproduce. As we follow Jesus’ proven method as outlined in the Bible, we will move towards spiritual maturity and multiplication. Consider the graphic to the right which illustrates Jesus’ model. We call it The Discipleship Pathway.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
